In Bruges
My partner had visited the medieval city of Bruges numerous times during her teenage years, and with Eurostar being so close at Kings Cross, getting there is so easy.
Just over 2 hours to Brussels, then a quick change for a local train to Bruges, the whole journey takes less than 4 hours door to door.
Bruges is beautifully preserved due to silting up of the river and the subsequent loss of business to Antwerp many centuries ago.
There's not a great deal to do in Bruges... just potter around! The Belfry is lovely, town square alittle tacky during our visit due to a funfair, and the Lake of Love was much smaller than I had imagined.
But that's the beauty of Bruges, for a European City its so chilled out. Coffee here, Blonde Zot there, and every turning seems like a post card.
Very busy in the daytime due to coachloads of tourists, its easy to walk two streets away and find a lovely part of the canal to yourself.
During our visit to Bruges we stayed in the
Romantik Pand Hotel
